1 million visitors in 2018 for the EPFL Library
Our library, in the Rolex Learning Center, received over 1 million visitors in 2018. It’s a place for people to study, conduct research, receive training, meet up and hang out.
Throughout the year we provided valuable support to our researchers and helped promote open science through a number of initiatives carried out as part of the School’s open-science strategy. Our Gold Open Access fund helped finance the open-access publication of 60 articles, four papers and one book. Our Infoscience database of articles by EPFL researchers got a revamp with a host of new features – users have downloaded some eight million documents from the platform. We also held a number of workshops on how PhD students and researchers can properly manage their research data, and our researchdata.epfl.ch website provided useful applications, which were downloaded 370 times.
2018 was studded with highlights: we inaugurated a video-game collection during the 25th annual Vivapoly fair; we opened a new reading area and Science for All space in the summer; we welcomed over 2,000 new students in September; we provided an introduction to information literacy as part of EPFL’s Global Issues course; and we ran data-protection workshops at the Data Detox exhibition during the 2018 Swiss Digital Day in October.
In short, 2018 was an event-filled year for both our library and those who use it!
