First EPFL event on the occasion of International Women's Day
EPFL holds its first event to mark International Women’s Day
EPFL celebrated International Women’s Day for the first time on 8 March 2018, through an event organized jointly by the EPFL alumni club and the School’s Equal Opportunities Office. Female EPFL graduates were on hand to share their inspiring careers and achievements, whether in research, teaching, industry, finance or starting their own business. Speakers included Marilyne Andersen, the then-dean of ENAC; Déborah Heintze, cofounder of Lunaphore, a startup that develops cancer research systems; Lajla Aganovic, the senior investment officer of an asset management firm; Agnès Simon, senior business director at Medtronic Europe; Assia Garbinato, vice-director and head of data management at La Vaudoise Assurance; and Michèle Reigner, head of watch patents and technology at Rolex. The panel discussion was moderated by Myret Zaki, the editor-in-chief of Bilan.
The event also gave attendees an opportunity to learn more about our School’s gender-equality initiatives through a presentation by Pierre Vandergheynst, Vice President for Education, and about the many organizations promoting this issue at EPFL and in the Lake Geneva region more broadly. Over 200 people attended the event.
